North Bengal”s first dry port begins operation

Jalpaiguri (WB), Jan 13 (PTI) The first inland container depot (ICD) or dry port in North Bengal began operation beside the tea park at Phulbari in West Bengal”s Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday, a company official said.

An ICD is like a port having facilities for cargo handling and temporary storage of containers. It would help hinterland customers receive port services more conveniently closer to their premises.

This ICD of Jalpaiguri will be of immense help to business houses of North Bengal and the Northeastern region.

Its director Amit Kumar said that though the facility has started functioning, it will take another fortnight for full-fledged operations to commence.

In 2008, the Siliguri-Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) had obtained a land from the Railways near New Jalpaiguri station the largest railway station in north Bengal on lease.

Kolkata, May 30 (PTI) The first export rake with reefer containers from Siliguri has reached Kolkata Dock System marking the opening up of direct access between Syama Prasad Mookerjee port here and north Bengal.

Reefer containers are refrigerated units that carry perishable items.

The first rake operated by a private container train operator has brought 28 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEUs) of deep-frozen reefer cargo weighing over 500 tonnes on Saturday, the port authorities said.

This direct rail connectivity opens up direct access of SMP, Kolkata to north Bengal and northeastern India, Port chairman Vinit Kumar said.

Projects Ongoing Details

PROJECT PROFILE :- In order to enhance the Mahananda River water quality to Class ‘C’ category of Inland Surface Water Quality as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) i.e. for outdoor bathing, and sources of water supply after primary treatment and disinfections, Interception-cum-diversion (I&D) scheme followed by suitable treatment of the uncontrolled discharge of grossly polluted raw municipal wastewater has been envisaged. The outfall drains for interception and diversion on both sides of Jorapani and Fuleswari River have been selected based on detailed field survey and investigation.

Siliguri dry port to start services

The Inland Container Depot (ICD) or the dry port developed by the Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority (SJDA) — the first of its kind facility for domestic and international cargo movement in the region — is all set to be functional soon.

Set up on a 29-acre-plot that has been taken on lease from the railways by the SJDA, the facility would be run by Pristine Hindustan Infraprojects Private Limited, a company that has been jointly floated by the Pristine Logistics and Hindustan Dockyard.

Pristine Hindustan starts first export service to Bangladesh from Siliguri port with electronic cargo tracking

Siliguri (West Bengal) [India], June 7 (ANI): In Siliguri’s Inland Container Depot (ICD), Pristine Hindustan, a Logistics Service Provider on Monday started the first consignment to Bangladesh with the mode of Electronic Cargo Tracking System(ECTS).

The ICD or dry port was developed by Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority(SJDA), a development body of state government with the help of the Union government, run by Pristine Hindustan Infraprojects Private Limited.
